Texas Black Expo Going Green in 2011 ... and Bringing Thousands of Black Houstonians Along
The Texas Black Expo, a year-round non-profit, statewide community organization headquartered in Houston Texas and committed to strengthening businesses, empowering youth, and helping individuals build better lives, will soon be launching its 2011 initiative: Texas Black Expo Going Green.
The mission of this initiative is to increase awareness among both individuals and businesses in the black community about various ways to become environmentally responsible citizens who participate in the green movement. The initiative will emphasize energy conservation, recycling paper, plastics and electronics, the use of renewable energy, reducing our environmental footprint, and the implementation of other practices of the green movement.
Utilizing our deep community influence, networks to hundreds of small businesses, community partners and sponsors who have supported the Expo, it is TBE’s goal to sign thousands of African Americans on to the initiative to become active participants in the green movement.
As many companies sign on to this initiative to heighten their levels of social awareness and move into greater levels of environmental responsibility, TBE will work to ensure that we are on the forefront of this movement, especially concerning the use of green energy and green workplace innovations.
Texas Black Expo will also host a statewide Eco-Enterprise Summit will explore the business opportunities available in creating a cleaner, greener economy in Texas. Small businesses will have an opportunity to learn new ideas and means of innovation within their businesses to profit from this trend. In addition, larger corporations will have an opportunity to share their strategies for going green and the new supplier needs that may become available with this shift, helping their diversity teams identify qualified business owners to supply their growing needs as environmentally-conscious businesses.
The 2011 Texas Black Expo Summer Celebration will feature a focus on green living, and the show will endeavor to distribute free green-related freebies to attendees, including LED light bulbs, reusable shopping bags, seed packets for gardening, etc. in addition to hosting a variety of green-based seminars, host green-based demonstrations, and highlight small businesses that have embraced their social responsibility to preserve the environment by going green.
