Our Story

The HOUSTON BLACK EXPO was founded in 2002 with a vision of connecting the businesses in the Greater Houston area to the communities that they serve. In its first year at Houston’s Reliant Center, the Houston Black Expo was able to connect more than 250 businesses to Houston’s African American community in a weekend celebration that featured national entertainment such as Shirley Caesar and R&B sensation Will Downing, fashion shows, cultural demonstrations, a cut-a-thon, food samplings, a health pavilion, seminars, and more than 10,000 attendees from the Greater Houston and surrounding areas.
This was only the beginning, as it served as the springboard for an even greater event in years that followed and has featured regional and national entertainers!

Led by President and CEO Jerome Love, and Shannon Cormier, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Director of the Houston Black Expo, the Houston Black Expo, now a highly-anticipated annual attraction offered at Houston’s famed George R. Brown Convention Center, has enjoyed phenomenal success over the years, and it continues to grow, thrive, and expand with each annual event. Past show highlights have included concert performances by Angie Stone, India Arie, Musiq Soul Child, Karen Clark Sheard, Kiera “Kiki” Sheard, Deitrick Haddon, Kim Burrell, and more! Additionally, the Expo has featured a number of celebrity presenters, panelists, and seminar facilitators, and the organization continues to offer events such as youth summits, career fairs, home buying forums, health screenings, community breakfasts, and other attractions designed to educate, empower, and inform the African American community.

There is something for everyone at the Houston Black Expo, where attendees are able to shop for unique, hard-to-find cultural items, experience the best in entertainment, be informed and empowered through various seminars and workshops, receive makeovers and massages, play in our Kids Zone, and win thousands of dollars in prizes and gifts. Make your plans to visit the Expo today!
