This come-as-you-are hot spot seems to always have a line, but it moves fast and just serves to build anticipation as you watch the waddling diners leave with a satisfied grin. The signature dish is waffles and wings, an unlikely combo that goes surprisingly well together. The green eggs and ham features diced green peppers. Also featured are fried catfish, grits, pork chops, breakfast sandwiches and a grilled chicken salad.

Frenchy's Chicken is a walk-up eatery serving highly coveted fried chicken and Cajun sides. Frenchy Creuzot's unassuming walk-up operation located a couple blocks away from the University of Houston's main campus has been a culinary institution since the late 1960s. UH students, neighborhood residents and devotees from 30 miles away wait patiently for their orders. Cayenne-flecked, lick-your-fingers-good fried chicken anchors the simple menu, either by the piece or with side-order options that include spicy red jambalaya, soulful collard greens, dirty rice, and red beans and rice. The subtle, smoky sausage is almost as exceptional as the chicken. There are a few picnic tables under the aluminum awning for those who wish to eat on the premises. This has been a favorite hangout for Houston Rockets after practice.
