The Black Expo has grown increasingly popular as a result of the thousands of individuals who converge on the city of Houston each year to celebrate Expo weekend! In fact, the event has become so popular, attracting revenue and recognition to the city of Houston, that it has become one of the landmark events that characterize the city of Houston as an international city that celebrates the uniqueness  of each of its diverse communities!

OUR STORY

The Houston Black Expo was founded in 2002 with a vision of connecting the businesses in the Greater Houston area to the communities that they serve. In its first year at Houston’s Reliant Center, the Houston Black Expo was able to connect more than 250 businesses to Houston’s African American community in a weekend celebration that featured national entertainment such as Shirley Caesar andR&B sensation Will Downing, fashion shows, cultural demonstrations, a cut-a-thon, food samplings, seminars, and more than 10,000 attendees from the Greater Houston and surrounding areas.

This was only the beginning as it served as the springboard for an even greater event in 2005 which featured national entertainers Angie Stone, Karen Clark and Kiki Sheard, and Deitrick Haddon! Further, this year, 15,000 attendees were present to shop for hard-to-find cultural items, experience the best in entertainment, receive makeovers and massages, play in our Kids Zone, and win thousands of dollars in prizes and gifts! Yes, the Houston Black Expo just keeps getting bigger and stronger every year!
